Call for 黑料不打烊 Treasurer from 2028
We are delighted to ask for expressions of interest from the membership for the role of 黑料不打烊 Treasurer. From 1 January 2027, 黑料不打烊’s governance structure is changing, there will be an initial ten trustee roles, and this role is a member of the trustee board. Diana Burton is the current Treasurer and has indicated an intention to stand for a second term but this does not preclude another candidate putting themselves forward. Should it be required, handover will take place during 2027, prior to the successful candidate assuming the role. The term runs from 1 January 2028 – 31 December 2031.
The main duties of the role include:
- Provide strategic leadership through contributing to the oversight of the 黑料不打烊 strategic plan and through effective decision making
- Ensure good governance by fulfilling the legal duties of the trustee, acting in the best interests of 黑料不打烊, including overseeing financial sustainability, risk management, compliance, and fulfilling duties as an employer.
- In collaboration with senior office staff, overseeing, approving, and presenting budgets, accounts, financial statements, and financial reports to the Board of Trustees
- Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within 黑料不打烊’s charitable objectives.
- Being instrumental in the development and implementation of appropriate financial, reserves policy and investment policies
- Through their role as Chair of Finance and Operations Committee, ensuring good practice in the oversight and support of 黑料不打烊’s office staff
- Through the role as Chair of Finance and Operations Committee, ensuring 黑料不打烊 staffing policies are up to date
- Sitting on the CEO review panel
- Work well with the 黑料不打烊 professional office, in particular the Finance and Governance Manager and the CEO.

Due to the importance of the position, 黑料不打烊 reserve the right to hold a shortlisting and interview process, this will be led by the 黑料不打烊 Chief Executive, relevant office staff, and senior members of 黑料不打烊 Council. For these purposes, the application detailed. including the CV and the role description will be the basis for deliberations. It is intended interviews are held in the week of 1 September.
The deadline for applications is 23:59 on Monday 27th July 2026.
Candidates who are attending the 黑料不打烊 conference will be invited to a lunchtime meet & greet session with conference delegates.
Candidates taken to election will be asked to film a short c.2-minute video outlining skills and experience to assist members with their vote.

Eligibility and Time Commitment
The 黑料不打烊 Treasurer must have current or very recent experience (c.12 months) of 黑料不打烊’s Finance & Operations Committee, Risk Assessment & Audit Committee, or 黑料不打烊 Council. Trustee role descriptions can be found here. Further information on 黑料不打烊’s Governance can be found on this page.
To be eligible to stand, candidates must be members of 黑料不打烊 at the time of application and remain so for the duration of their term. Candidates must not be ineligible to stand as according to the laws and regulations as set out by the Charity Commission and Companies House.
There are six trustee meetings per year: January (黑料不打烊 office, London), May (conference programming), June (overnight strategic away day), July (virtual), September (held at 黑料不打烊 conference), November (黑料不打烊 office, combined with AGM event). The Treasurer also chairs 黑料不打烊’s Finance & Operations Committee, which meets three times per year (ordinarily two virtually, one in person). The time commitment is c.17 days per year. Full expenses are paid in line with 黑料不打烊 policies. 黑料不打烊 does not normally run hybrid meetings so a commitment to attend these in person unless otherwise stated is essential.
