Vicky Zhao

Secondary mathematics teacher at Trumpington Community College

Vicky Zhao is an applied scientist and secondary mathematics teacher, committed to bridging the gap between research and classroom practice. She earned her first degree in Physics, before pursuing postgraduate studies in Data Science, Economics and Development Policy at MIT, and a doctorate in Developmental and Educational Psychology at the University of Cambridge. Her research spans educational inequality, large-scale evaluations of social-emotional learning programmes, and cross-national psychometric analyses. She has contributed to projects with the Social Mobility Commission, the Research Triangle Institute, New York University and the University of Cambridge. Her work on play and children鈥檚 mental health has been featured in over 197 global media outlets, including the Guardian and The Times. After completing her teacher training with United Learning, Vicky now teaches mathematics at Trumpington Community College. She is particularly interested in applying her research insights to the classroom, creating evidence-informed approaches that support student learning and wellbeing.
