Dr Myrtle Emmanuel is an associate professor in HRM and Organisational Behaviour at the University of Greenwich, where she also holds a seconded, university-wide role as the Race Academic Lead. She earned her PhD in Management from Henley Business School at the University of Reading, focusing on ‘The Relational Nature of Graduates’ Career Management’.
Her research and knowledge-exchange activities cover a range of critical areas, including the working experiences of Windrush nurses in post-war Britain and mental health disparities among African-Caribbean communities in the UK. Committed to tackling racial inequalities in higher education, she works to reduce the BAME graduate employment gap.
Beyond academia, Myrtle has undertaken consultancy work to advance race equality within organisations, providing strategic guidance and practical interventions to foster inclusive workplaces. Her expertise and influence are evident in her participation in a BBC New Thinking podcast on Caribbean health inequalities and her success in securing funding from the Arts & Humanities Research Council for a key research project.
