John Whitcher is a lecturer and PhD researcher at the University of South Wales in the Faculty of Life Sciences and Education. His doctoral research critically examines the regulation, policy and delivery of Access to Higher Education courses in Wales. Leveraging his extensive experience in teaching Health and Social Care across both further and higher education, along with his professional background as a registered nurse within NHS Wales, John’s research delves into the intersection of educational policy, social mobility and institutional practice. His doctoral research investigates how Access provision aligns with education reform in Wales and the widening participation agenda, contributing to both theoretical and practical understandings of educational equity and regulation in post-compulsory education.
