Dominic has made a leading contribution to study of curriculum and pedagogy, including national curricula, for more than 25 years. Dominic’s main research is on effective teaching of reading and writing. His influential theory The 'Double Helix of Reading and Writing' was published in a prize winning paper and in the award-winning book ‘The Balancing Act: An Evidence-Based Approach to Teaching Phonics, Reading and Writing’ (co-authored with Charlotte Hacking, Routledge). Dominic was president of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ from 2019 to 2022. He has made a significant contribution to research on education as an academic discipline in universities, including the vital place of teacher education and ‘close-to-practice research’. As president then vice-president he led the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ â€˜Education: The State of the Discipline’ initiative which consisted of five research projects undertaken by different teams of researchers.
