Rita Chawla-Duggan, Dr

Associate Professor at University of Bath

Rita Chawla-Duggan is Associate Professor of Education at the University of Bath. Her work focuses on children’s learning, pedagogic relations and educational quality, with a long-standing commitment to early childhood education in India. Drawing on educational ethnography and cultural-historical perspectives, she examines how learning is constituted through children’s everyday interactions with families, teachers and community life, particularly within diverse and disadvantaged Indian settings. Her research also advances visual and ethnographic methodologies for understanding learning as a socially situated and transformative process. She has published on childhood learning, pedagogic practice and the methodological challenges of researching educational environments in India, and is co-author of the forthcoming open-access volume Colonising and decolonising: Concepts, learnings and praxes (Routledge).
