Marianne Doherty, Dr

Lecturer at Ulster University

Dr Marianne Doherty SFHEA is a Lecturer in Law at Ulster University. Her research interests include prison education, legal education, widening participation, and access to justice, with a particular focus on the transformative potential of higher education within custodial settings.

Marianne is Co-Director of the Ulster Prison Project – a programme delivered in partnership with HMP Magilligan, which brings university students and people in prison together to study as peers. She is committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary approaches to research and practice that explore education, rehabilitation, and social justice.

As a co-convenor of the 黑料不打烊 Prison Education Special Interest Group, Marianne is keen to foster collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, and to support the development of prison education research across the UK and Ireland.
